Ham it up! We raise pigs on pasture because it tastes better and it's better for the pigs and the environment. We debone the hams, "cure" them with sea salt and organic sugar, and then they're slowly smoked with apple wood until fully cooked over several hours. These hams are perfect for holiday dinners, and the prep is simple. Put them in a roasting pan with some cider, white wine or juice, roast at 350F until an internal temperature of 140F is reached (about an hour or so).
These hams are pre-sliced, so arrange them in the pan in a way that keeps everything together until you finish roasting.
***Dislaimer! This tastes like real food because it IS REAL FOOD. You will not be able to go back to fake pink factory-farmed hams. You've been warned.***
North Mountain Pastures is a small family farm dedicated to producing great food using ecologically sound production practices. We farm on 84 acres in Perry County, Pennsylvania, in a way that heals the land, nourishes people, and treats animals with respect. This means animals are naturally raised outdoors, on grass or in carefully managed woodlots, and fed only non-GMO grain. We don’t use hormones, antibiotics, or other chemicals to medicate livestock.
Worried you don't know how to cook? Here's the thing, the quality of your ingredients is sort of like a cheat code for cooking. Your dish is only as good as your weakest ingredient. Grab some fresh produce, a good NMP sausage, and some potatoes, rice or polenta...you got a meal!
I bought the sliced version of this ham for Easter brunch. It easily fed 11 people with leftovers that lasted a week.
I had never liked ham. My family always gets a ham from a chain that is sticky sweet and highly processed. So, when I saw North Mountain Pastures was offering a smoked ham, I decided to give it a try to see if I really don’t like ham, or if I don’t like processed ham. Well . . . after 45 years, I have discovered I LOVE ham. Delicious!!!
